July 28th | Facebook, not just for holiday snaps. Here's the proof.

With the announcement that Facebook has recently surpassed 500 million users, it can no longer be ignored as a major player in the online game, if not THE major player.

It's been commonly recognised for a long time now that social networking is very important in modern business development. Well, it's not very important anymore, it's vital. Its the most direct way to speak to your customers, to get feedback and promote your services.

November 18th | Video spurs explosion of Internet traffic

Internet traffic will have increased six fold by 2012 in a five-year period as more users view and post videos online, delegates at an Internet forum heard on Wednesday.

From 2007 to 2012, "traffic will increase sixfold," Robert Pepper, a vice president of Cisco, told the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in Egypt's Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.

October 6th | Mad Dog Digital to develop iPhone Apps

We are very excited in Mad Dog Digital at the announcment that Flash based applications will be coming to the iPhone next year with the release of Flash CS5. Adobe Systems has come up with a way to let developers write Flash applications for Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch devices, even without the support of Apple.

Adobe has been trying to work with Apple for more than a year to get its Flash Player software running on Apple's products. The only two devices they could not get Flash running on, they said in the video, were the iPhone and an old rotary-dial telephone!

October 1st | 100,000 fans take the Google Wave test

Invited users have been given access to Google's latest gadget that lets a group of people contribute to create collaborative emails, documents and blog posts.Google Wave creates a nerve centre where users can get all their Twitter, Facebook and email updates in one place.But the really exciting feature is the ability for people you invite to join a "wave" to chat, reply and even edit the document in real-time. Wave claims to make the email we now use seem like snail mail. Access is still invitation-only. I saw one Ebay bid of $70 for an invitation.The hype is building!

September 11th | Facebook releasing open source Web server

Facebook is releasing as open source a Web server technology because it wants to make it easier for developers to create applications that let users post status updates in real time, a functionality popularized by Twitter.

The Web server framework that Facebook will offer as open source is called Tornado, was written in the Python language and is designed for quickly processing thousands of simultaneous connections.

We will definitely try it out :)

August 6th | Flash Builder 4 to be launched by Adobe.

It took 18 months for the Adobe flash builder to be developed (formally Adobe flex builder) and will be launched by the end of 2009. "Adobe flash builder will be highly productive, free open source framework for building and maintaining expressive web applications that deploy consistency on all major browsers, desktops and operating system" claims Ben Forta, Director of Adobe.

Mad Dog Digital cannot wait to get our hands on it!!

July 4th | Our music video featured on top US site

The Mad Dog Digtial production of the music video for Rosey by Hoarsebox has received the featured music video of the week nod by the massive US based 99dollarmusicvideo.com. Not only have they featured our video but screened an interview with the director, our very own Dave Jackson. Check it out!

June 3rd | Internet Users Place More Weight on Design

The demand for good web design is increasing, reveals a recent Webcopyplus online poll. Almost 25% of web users indicated "poor visual presentation" as the number one element that drives them away from websites.

Only 6.6% of web users who participated in a similar 2007 online poll indicated "poor visual presentation" as the main reason to abandon a website. That equates to a 267% increase during the two-year period. A total of 318 web users were asked what's most likely to drive them away from a website.

50.9% indicated "slow load times"

24.8% noted "weak web copy"

24.2% specified "poor visual presentation"

May 5th | Mad Dog launch music video

Mad Dog Digital are proud to announce the screening of our first music video for Dublin four piece Hoarsebox. Shot on location in a Inchicore modern art gallery and the bands rehearsal space in April 2009. The video has been edited in Final Cut Pro using speed variations and split screens to show the band perform from a number of perspectives. Let us know what you think of the results.

April 16th | Irish Usage of Facebook is up 153%

Facebook had nearly 100m visitors in Europe in February 2009, up 314% over the previous year, according to new analysis from comScore. The site’s audience is largest by a long way in the UK with 22.7m visitors, up 75% versus a year ago, followed by France with 13.7m visitors, up 518%. In Ireland, the site now has 512,000 users, up 153% from last year.

"Over the course of the past year, it has climbed the rankings in virtually every market and taken over the top position in several" said Mike Read, comScore managing director of Europe.

We have recently gotten our hands on the amazing new Sony HDR-FX1000. This is a broadcast quality full HD (1080p) camera.

The progressive scan features make it the perfect solution for creating top quality web based video as well as full 1080i video for TV. We'll post up some sample footage when we get around to editing it. The results are stunning!

January 22nd | Mad Dog Digital takes its hat off ...

...to CNN.

CNN used Microsoft’s recently released Photosynth technology to record the moment when Barack Obama was sworn in as the 44th President of the United States. This allowed anybody to send in their digital photos of the event and with everybody’s photos means all perspectives of the event are covered creating a 3D synth.

Will this become the way forward for covering all major historical events ???
